The UCSA Education and Advocacy Office plays a valid role in supporting students through the University complaints process, while at the same time remaining independant of the University.
All department publications say that if a student has a problem with a course or a lecturer, that they should take the problem to the individual concerned or the HOD. However, another option is to come to the UCSA Education and Advocacy Office if you are not comfortable approaching the department yourself, or if you feel your approaches have not been successful.
At the UCSA Education and Advocacy Office, we use an empowerment model of Education Advocacy Click here. The student is always in control. We can advise and help students to the best of our ability, and give them options for solving their problems. At any stage, students can withdraw from the process or decide to go it alone. It's up to the student. We can: - leave the student to deal with the problem themselves after support and advice from us
- support the student in meetings as they try to deal with the problem
- act as the the student's advocate and work with the student to resolve the problem.
Some of the main areas the Education and Advocacy Office deals with are: - Complaints
- Appeals
- Dishonest Practice and Discipline Hearings
- Assessment Issues
- Harassment
- Aegrotat Considerations
- University Policy, Procedures, and Guidelines
