//. AEGROTATS

//. WHAT IS AN AEGROTAT?

An aegrotat is a pass grade that may be awarded when a student's performance in an exam or assessment was impaired or when a student has been prevented from attending an exam or completing an assessment because of serious illness, injury or other circumstances outside the students control such as personal bereavement.

//. HOW DOES IT WORK?

If you apply, and are accepted, for an aegrotat, you may be awarded an aegrotat grade or pass.

//. HOW DO YOU APPLY FOR AN AEGROTAT?

  1. Pick up an aegrotat form from Level 3 of the Registry Building.
  2. Make sure you have the required evidence (see below) for your aegrotat application.
  3.  In cases of illness or injury, the application will be forwarded to the Registry by your health provider. In cases of bereavement or other circumstances, you need to hand the application in yourself (Level 3, Registry).
  4. Ensure that you have completed your aegrotat application within 7 days of the due date of the assessment.

//. REQUIRED EVIDENCE FOR AEGROTAT APPLICATIONS

  • Illness or Injury: Confidential report on the correct form from a doctor, dental surgeon, midwife or counsellor approved by the Academic Board. (Student Health has a list of the approved counsellors).
    NB. This report must relate to a consultation that has occurred before or within 24 hours after the due date.
  • Bereavement: Death notice from the newspaper or a letter from a medical practitioner, minister of religion, Kaumatua, or the police.
  • Other Critical Circumstances: Evidence will depend on the nature of the case.

//. WHAT HAPPENS ONCE YOU HAVE HANDED IN YOUR APPLICATION?

  1. The Manager of Student Records forwards your application to your HoD.
  2. The department will send you a letter within 14 days with the outcome of your application.
  3. The HoD may recommend an extension of time without penalty
  4. An Aegrotat Pass will be awarded if HoD must is satisfied that, in the absence of the impairment, you would have passed the course.
  5. An Aegrotat Grade can only be awarded if you have been able to complete a substantial part of the course and a substantial part of the assessment at a satisfactory level.
  6. The HoD may, under some circumstances, make provision for 'special assessment'.

Your department should have an aegrotat policy which explains how they make their decisions. You can ask to see a copy of this.
