Opened in May 2006, Montana Early Learning Centre specialises in the care and education of the infant and toddler age group (birth - 3 1/2 years), and is licensed for 30 children including 20 under 2s. The centre is divided into two specially designed indoor and outdoor areas for children under 15 months and 15 months - 3 1/2 years. It is situated at 31 Montana Ave and open from 8am to 5 pm Monday to Friday.
Montana Early Learning Centre is student owned and governed and is open to children of students, staff and the community. WINZ childcare subsidies are available to those who meet the income thresholds, and prices are affordable to accomodate students' budgets.
The centre has excellent teacher:child ratios (1:3 for under ones, 1:4 for others) which are above the required government ratios. Teachers are passionate about early childhood education and follow children's learning and development throughout the programme with documentation in each child's profile book. The centre's programme is based on the Early Childhood Curriculum, Te Whaariki, which provides opportunities for children to grow and develop holistically.
The centre's strong culture is based on committed teachers who value each other, children and their families, and includes celebrations and warm, reciprocal interactions and relationships. Children benefit from regular excursions around the University, where they enjoy feeding ducks, taking an interest in nature and the care of the environment, visits to the UCSA Ilam centre and taking part in other exciting things that happen on campus.
