Class Reps

Class Reps are student representatives who provide an important link between classes and lecturers by acting as a liaison. Each class should have its own elected or volunteer class rep, whose task is to be the first point of contact for students to help resolve class issues at a low level, and thereby help to avoid bigger problems later.

Class Reps also provide the UCSA with student views and help us to keep in touch with pressing student issues and concerns.

The Class Rep System is organised and administered by the Education Coordinators. The Education Support Coordinators are available to offer support and advice to all class reps, so please do not hesitate to contact them with any concerns, no matter how small or large.

How do I become a Class Rep?

  • Class Reps are recruited at the start of every course.
  • If you would like to be a class rep, then let your lecturer or course coordinator know, or put up your hand when they ask for a rep during class.
  • Once you have volunteered, you will need to register as a Class Rep on the UCSA database, collect a copy of the Class Rep handbook, hand your registration form to your departmental rep, and attend the Class Rep Training session.

What does a Class Rep do?

Class Reps help sort out issues or problems that may arise in a course that affect the class.
Class Reps are expected to attend Class Rep Training
Class Reps are required to attend the Staff/Student liaison meetings in their departments, usually once per term.

How do  I find out who my Class Rep is?

You can check the UCSA list against your course code to find out who the rep is for your class.

How can my Class Rep help me?

Class Reps can help with general course issues. This includes things which the whole class has issues with, such as:

  • Overly difficult or improperly explained assessment
  • Difficulty hearing or understanding the lecturer
  • Delays in the return of assessments.

Class Reps can’t help you with individual issues, such as:

  • Missing a test
  • Aegrotats
  • Lost notes
  • Personal problems

It is best to approach the lecturer yourself with these problems, or ask advice from the Education Support Coordinators.
