Volunteering

The UCSA has started up a Volunteer Centre at Canterbury University for students who would like to give some of their time and skills to help those in the community.

We are working with Volunteer Canterbury to give students the opportunity to find volunteer work (anything from a one off event to a weekly committment) in their areas of interest and/or study.   Ideally we would like to help students find volunteer work in the area in which they are seeking employment so they can gain experience before applying for paying jobs (finances for not-for-profit organisations; tutoring; civil defence; environmental projects; coaching; recreation etc).  Several employers, when looking to hire, have indicated they look favourably on those who have been involved in volunteering work.

Anyone would like to sign up to this new initiative or find more information, please contact Marcella Payton on ssm@ucsa.canterbury.ac.nz
